Feng Shui your Mind, Body + Home for Autumn
Autumn is arriving here and with it brings in an energy to turn inward and start slowing down for fall.
With a Feng Shui practice you can bring in a new energy, with rituals that create forces to support and harmonise you and to bring a clearing into the space that autumn offers within your surrounding environment— Feng Shui literally means “wind-water” (i.e. fluid) from ancient times where rituals were performed for Mind Body and Home. Every transition was sacred.
Feng Shui can be used as a way to direct the flow and Autumn seems a perfect time to work with that.
There’s something special about the change in seasons just as summer ends and autumn begins— It makes me feel like I’m ready to make some changes and revamp things within my mind body and home. I love the change in the air, the colours of the leaves and how it feels as nature and earth changes around us, these send in messages for us to start doing the same.
To let go, slow down and change up the busy, intense or repetitive schedules.
So, it’s a perfect time to start creating new habits around turning down the inner dial, to eat better and make cosy spaces in your home for the darker shades of day to come!
As Earth enters autumn (UK) the northern hemisphere begins to tilt away from the sun, so we begin to fall into shorter days, we have less warmth and sunlight, and the cooler temperatures come in… as much as I miss the intensity of the busy summer and sun it is a nudge to go back to being more soft and slow.
It’s still a beautiful time to see the sun rise and sun set on clear crisp days as the sun’s path across the sky appears lower, making time before or after work or on days off to soak it up will enhance your circadian rhythm and the light that it casts is beautiful to see—it’s light beams are softer, creating lengthy rays that appear more golden in hue.
So, with autumn energy encompassing both natural and physical changes setting in by the reduced daylight, you too can start to bring in a storage of warmth ( absorb it as a residual left from summer) to take that warmth and nourish within— Mind Body and Home.
Autumn energy brings in a reminder that change often comes with a loss, a shedding or a letting go of something, but sometimes that is needed! It feels hard even through chosen moments of it but when you do let go remember you make space for yourself in a whole new way. A space to embrace a blank canvas after it all falls away..,AND there’s a million things you can do with a clean canvas! There’s no rush either, if parts stay blank for a while let it.
When your ready you’ll start filling up again with all the things you long for, so different parts of your body that feel the fresh new air again! That’s what really make up your true skin.
The old versions of ourselves or our past lives just teach us more about who and what we really yearn for. Let Autumns phenomenon of change be a reminder of that, we are always evolving,
So, here are some of my Mind Body Home feng shui rituals and recipes for you to help with any changes you may be moving through and bring in added comfort to autumn time.
Rituals to support potential fatigue! As our inner rhythms want to slow down in preparation for winter and you can support this function by mirroring nature as much as you can while it’s medicine is unfolding for you.
Autumn Mind Body Home Rituals
These are all practices you can bring awareness around, with each one done intentionally can connect you to more presence—with that practice alone you’ll start releasing the past, preparing to go inward and you can create room to look forward to cosy spaces, making a little more time to relax.
Support against fall fatigue !!
Mind—
Release the load, as autumn invites in a time of letting go, Journal it out, practice time in breath reflection, create slow moments ( mornings or evenings in tea meditation) or plan out time for this and focus on the element of Air as a sweeping out of anything old. Use this time for reflection. What is ready to go?
As much as it’s worth setting intentions for the coming month by starting a gratitude practice don’t use this to push down the heavy things or pressures you may be feeling or living. Go back to those still moments and just process them, feel them and you’ll learn to understand what life is telling you by these darker times.
Creating fresh clean spaces in your home helps to bring in mental clarity and focus.
Body—
Take a little extra care not to drain yourself, right now the body is seeking some relief from all the busy vibrations. Soak up the morning sunlight, enjoy autumn walks and evening moon walks as the light pulls in and go with it!
Its all in the little things that can bring in a reset or gathering of lightness in yourself again.
Autumn is a good time to practice more yin and restorative style yoga practices, with a balanced dynamic vinyasa flow for creating an internal shift in the body. With a mix of these slower spirited movements and deeper stretches the body responds to that and will release tightness and create space, you get to soothe the nervous system too. Which will kick start the bodys natural ability to repair and reabilitate itself.
Self massage practuce is a deeply relaxing and grounding ritual that can help you de-stress from deeper held tention, aches and pains in the body. Take some counter pressure, laying down and just moving or rolling into the hard surface of the floor— let you body touch the Earth! Let the Earth touch your body! With this type of body pressing is a massage and you also support the lymphatic system which is responsible for eradicating excess water and toxins.
I love to focus on oil body scrubs to help brush away excess toxins and bring moisture to the skin, with the constitution of Air element skin can become dry and with oil scrubs you keep moisture in and protect from harsh winds.
Earth + Air BODY scrub Recipe
Make up a mason jar to fill with 1/2 cup fine Sea Salt and or Himalayan salt and 1/2 cup organic sugar cane, add a good amount of olive oil and a big spoonful of coconut oil and mix until the salt and sugar are combined, you can add essential oils of your choice, like earthy cedarwood and sandlewood to ground, eucalyptus will open the airways and Patchouli will soothe, add dry rose petals too ( I have loads left from summer that I dried out in the sun). This scrub keeps for ages, you can use all over the body and shower off. You’ll feel invigorated and softer, Just what the time of fall is about.

Add inner nourishment with wam wholesome soul foods to consume more nutrient-rich meals. Like bone broths, soups, stews, protein and make warmer drinks like hot chocolate with raw cacao for B-vitamins and magnesium. It’s lovely to pre- prepare some meals to freeze up for days you’ll want to just make the most of a slower pace, warm up those stews, soups and pot roasts!
Add warming spices to your cooking like cardamom, ginger, garlic, pepper, tumeric, herbal teas and drinks.
Home—
Set the tone for your indoor space, preparing for winter’s darker, more internal energies and the shift in season with a de-clutter for your home — Feng Shui into your home with practices that create space and calm.
Open the windows to let that fresh fall air in, allow the fresh fall air to blow in and change up vital Chi to circulate through your home. Breezy days are so good for this. Freshen up cushions, sofas, curtains and use the breezy days to dry out washing. So cleansing.
Re-arrange the furniture and place objects spaciously, avoid direct lines and clear pathways, particularly being mindful not to block out the flow of direct sunlight.
Place sofas and chairs in a U-shape around a low living table to encourage gathering, conversation and a good flow of energy.
Light candles in the home, add soft lighting and add music to your evenings, whilst relaxing or cooking.
Incorporate metal objects like brass bowls or copper, chimes and float candles and small autumn leaves in water, use grounding, clearing and protective Crystals like pyrite, tigers eye, obsidian and crystal quartz.
Balance with Earth and Air Energy tones, colours, aromas and feels…
I love to bring nature inside and infuse pine cones with essential oils of Douglasfir, frankincense, Copaiba and cinnamon.
Bring in earthy tones like copper, bronze, deep browns, and rich creams to create a cosy, grounding atmosphere, some blankets added to sofas for guests and chill with good food and drink.
Water plants more sparingly and add some more around the house to connect your home with the earth’s stable energy.
My favourite plant for autumn is mother in law tongue to help remove stagnant energy and clear the air which is said to help with better sleep and improve air quality.
With some feng shui practices you’ll balance Yin & Yang energies in the home. Feel more space and be encouraged to settle in.
The autumn Equinox is around September 22nd this marks the start of fall, a lovely time to celebrate earths transition and seal it in with more healing habits for yourself.
When day and night are nearly equal, bringing in the shift to more darkness we need a little more time and a little more light to live by.
I hope you enjoy these beautiful reminders and opportunities to create more freedoms through the changing season and your body.
Much Love
