Yoga Mudra

Getting to know your hands and the ancient art of yoga…
Mudras are also known as Yoga of the hands.

These hand gestures not only look beautiful, but they help channel the flow of energy through the body. Mudras also help in balancing the five elements inside the body (Fire,Water,Air,Earth and Space).
Yoga mudra and the five vital elements of the body have a close relationship. Mudras balance these five vital elements of the body.
The thumb represents fire, the index finger represents air, the middle finger represents ether, the ring finger represents earth, and the little finger represents water.

The meaning ‘mudra’, is a Sanskrit word, meaning ‘closure’ or ‘seal’…
these hand positions are physical gestures that activate energy flow in the body.
There are various Mudras which all have different Benifits for healing… great for when you want to enhance your meditation practice and feel even more energised.

The most common of all is the Anjali Mudra, where the hands are kept at the centre of the heart. I practice and incorporate this mudra within my physical yoga flow practice, so you will all be familiar with this one and I’m looking forward to sharing with you more mudras.
